EVENT TEN WRAP UP
Our penultimate round is in the books, and it’s safe to say most players had a solid day out at Mornington GC. After a challenging month at Devilbend, scoring improved significantly, with the field averaging just under 31 points—making Mornington our second-best scoring round of the year.
Despite the hectic time of year, we had another fantastic turnout, with 46 players taking on Morno’s sloping fairways. However, despite the high scoring average, only five players managed to match or beat their handicap. That said, Round 10 truly belonged to one man and one man alone, delivering a golfing performance for the ages. Let's get into this months Good, Bad and Ugly:
Monthly Winner:
KANE GROSE (18) – The man, the myth, the legend! Kane absolutely tore up his home track with a personal best and competition-best 45 points—nine shots better than his handicap! A truly unforgettable round.
Monthly Runner Up:
ROBBIE GREENWOOD (13) – The ever-consistent Robbie G delivered another stellar round, securing monthly runner up and climbing to the top of the season leaderboard. The only shock? That 38 points was a distant second!
Top Performances:
Best Front 9:
KANE GROSE (18) – The star of the round delivered the highest 9-hole total of the season, shooting a phenomenal one-over 37 to rack up an incredible 26 points.
Best Back 9:
TREV CLANCY (23) – Full credit to Trev, who stayed focused despite playing alongside Kane’s career-best performance. He put together a strong finish with 20 points on the back nine.
Best Gross Score:
BRENDAN DENSEM (7) – Determined to make the prestigious best gross scorers list, Brendan finally broke through with a solid 80 off the stick—on a course he openly and vocally loathes no less! He narrowly edged out Kane and Luke, who both carded 81.
Round 10 NAGA Points:
Each month, the five competitors with the lowest scores earn NAGA points, which contribute to the Yearly NAGA leaderboard. The top of the Season NAGA leaderboard saw plenty of action this round, with four of this month’s six NAGA recipients coming from the 10 players teetering on the edge of claiming the infamous and inaugural Golden Dick Putter at the season-ending club championships in March. Tough break for you all—better luck at Lang Lang! (Sounds like you’ll need it most, Matt!!)
• CHRIS GRUNDY & SPYKE MILLICAN: 5 Points
• ROGER BATES: 4 Points
• MATT MCDONALD: 3 Points
• STEPHEN OAKES: 2 Points
• JARRYD DIETZEL : 1 Point
MONTHLY AWARDS:
TINDER AWARD
The player/s with the most swipes on their scorecard.
☆ SPYKE MILLICAN ☆ - 7 Swipes
GATTUSO AWARD
Awarded to the player with the greatest variance between their front and back nines. This accolade pays tribute to the passionate Italian football coach/player Gennaro Gattuso and his truly descriptive quote surrounding his teams performance. This 5 second YouTube video is a must see to truly understand the Gattuso Award:

☆ JOEL WELSFORD ☆ - 7 Point Difference (Front 11 & Back 18)
*Kane also had a Front/Back nine differential of 7 points, but when one nine is awesome and the other is out of this world, that’s just not Gattuso Golf!
SPARTAN AWARD
Heading into this round, every competitor whose home track has hosted a PGAC event has ended up with NAGA points. Some even posted their worst scores ever—but not the Mornington lads. No, like a couple of Gerard Butler-looking Spartans, they kicked the home-track curse square in the chest! Well done, gents!
☆ CONNOR WINCHESTER & KANE GROSE ☆
COLD START AWARD
000—it's the number you call when you're in urgent (and often not-so-urgent) need of assistance. But it's also, coincidentally, the stableford points scored by our award winner through his first three holes at Mornington.
Not many could bounce back from a hat-trick of pickups to start their round, but not only did this man recover—he surged into the Top 10 for the month with a remarkable 34 points. A bloody sensational effort from Yarrawonga’s first-night specialist himself:
☆ BRETT HOGAN ☆
PARIS RAHM AWARD
This award, named in honor of the 2023 Masters Champion's infamous collapse at the Paris Olympics, recognizes those who stumble at critical moments—whether by faltering over the final few holes, squandering home-course advantage, wasting good form, or struggling in perfect conditions. There are countless ways to earn this less-than-prestigious title.
With no home-track advantage wasted this month and Kane absolutely dominating the field, there wasn’t a clear standout for this month’s Paris Rahm Award. However, one man had a month that was both incredible in many ways and brutally rough at the same time.
Rightfully he was more than a little salty after beating his handicap by two shots—only to lose the daily comp at Mornington by a staggering 21 points (thanks to a 42-handicapper dropping 59 points )—his misfortune didn’t stop there. He also finished as the runner-up furthest from the monthly winner all season seven back.
It’s been a tough stretch, so to lift his spirits and remind him that he can win something and isnt always the bridesmaid, I’m awarding this month’s Paris Rahm Award to the very unlucky:
☆ ROBBIE GREENWOOD ☆
Thats the Round 10 wrap up, see you at Lang Lang for Round 11.
